Johnson County Wants You....errr, I Mean, Your Money

......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek......2.04.06.....Kudos to Johnson County Commissioners Dave Lindstrom and John Toplikar for voting "no" to seek a public vote to increase taxes (again!). Chairwoman Annabeth Surbaugh seems to think they need more money, but doesn't know exactly what for. The current rate is 7.4%. The proposed increase would put it to to about 8%. Surbaugh says that she has a "clear message from voters that a sales tax increase is preferable to a property tax increase." That almost makes it sounds like she's doing something noble, doesn't it? The right thing would be to fox tour budget and don't raise taxes at all.

He Could Have Been President

.......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek......2.01.06.....

John Kerry, failed presidential candidate, has offered to donate his entire library of books to the Smithsonian. He had hopes of someday having a Presidential library, and it would have worked out great, except he lost. Kerry led the failed filibuster against Alito this week. Failure or not, though, Kerry believes he has played an important part in American history (you know, Vietnam, or somehwer near there). The Smithsonian has not commented on whether they will accept either of the two books.

Deathmatch: Tarwater vs Stringfield!

.......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek......1.31.06.....
Tonights Fight: Tarwater vs Stringfield! A match of wits and fisticuffs. Well, maybe not wits. But fists, anyway. A boxing match at Kemper Arena? Nope, just the Jackson County Legislature. Robert Stringfield and Dan Tarwater decided to take care of unfinished legislative business by fighting each other. The Jackson County Sherrifs Offiice gave to the Jackson County Prosecuter Office the information and they will decide whether charges will be pressed against either of the two. It's nice the Legislature keeps these departments busy and productive.

I Read the News Today! Oh Boy...1.29.06

.......[c]2006 by Richard L Zorek......1.29.06.....
Notes I made as I read the Kansas City Star:....Republicans in Kansas met to retool their platform. After laying out some issues, they added a "diversity clause" which means they accept people which carry different points of view. This is fine if they are a social group who meets for tea in Topeka. Apparently, though, the Republicans will not stay the course on any issue. Same old same old................The upcoming vote over the improvements for the stadium is no longer just that. According to Mike White, attorney for the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority the upcoming vote will be "Either I want to keep the teams in Kansas City or I don't." These kinds of tactics are all the more reason to vote against it. I predict a lot more desparate and paniced pleas from those involved in pushing stadium improvements.......JC Penney is having a "Baby Sale." This either means they have an overstock on babies they need to get rid of, or the sale is very small......Ebay is being sued for allowing "knock-off" or fake items to be sold on their site. It's about time. This suit is over jewelry, but there is a host of other bootlegged and copied items being sold on ebay. I have even reported some. Ebay, of course, doesn't do anything about it. There are reputable vendors on Ebay, so it is still a good place to buy and sell, but buyer beware sometimes. And if you get ripped offf ask for an immediate refund from the seller.........No one knows for sure what is going to happen after the victory Hamas had in the election this week. I have said for many years, though, that taking the American brand of democrarcy overseas is not a great idea. The people and cultures are too different, diverse, and sometimes deadly......
